Description The paper is a brief essay on history of libertarianism in the USA with focus on libertarianism as a part of conservative movement. Authors emphasize the fact that many American writers and thinkers of the Right felt strong protolibertarian influence, so libertarianism had all the chances to become the leading current in new American conservatism. In the middle of the 20th century several writers from conservative m “National Review” magazine entertained the idea of “conservative fusionism”, but libertarians rejected it. More, such libertarian leaders as Ayn Rand and Murray Rothbard chose confrontation with conservatism. As a result libertarians distanced themselves from conservatism and in the end formed their own party becoming not just an intellectual but also a political movement. Still, Murray Rothbard after his “wilderness years” decided to join the Right again and even offered “paleolibertarian strategy”. But his attempt failed and strategy brought more bad than good to libertarianism, even discrediting the movement. The beginning of 1990s brought the alliance between paleolibertarians and paleoconservatives but no real political successes. Authors point out that in many ways libertarian strain damaged political career of Ron Paul. More, the legacy of paleolibertarian strategy may undermine presidential campaign of Senator Rand Paul - unless he rejects this legacy.
Статья - краткий очерк истории либертарианского движения в США в рамках формирования американского консерватизма как такового. Авторы сосредоточивают внимание на том, что в США многие мыслители и деятели правых убеждений испытали серьезное влияние протолибертарианцев, и потому у либертарианства были большие шансы стать главным течением в новом американском консерватизме. В середине ХХ века у некоторых деятелей из журнала “National Review” возникла идея «консервативной коалиции», однако либертарианцы не приняли в ней участие и в лице своих лидеров Айн Рэнд и Мюррея Ротбарда пошли на конфликт с остальными правыми. В итоге либертарианцы всё более отдалялись от американского консерватизма и в какой-то момент даже создали партию, перестав быть только интеллектуальным течением и став политическим движением. Однако в итоге тот же Мюррей Ротбард, после определенных идеологических «виляний», решил вернуться в лагерь правых и предложить консерваторам «палеолибертарианскую стратегию». Однако попытка оказалась неудачной, и «стратегия» скорее дискредитировала ее авторов и либертарианское движение в целом. В начале 1990-х палеолибертарианцы сошлись с палеоконсерваторами, но этот союз в итоге тоже не дал никаких видимых результатов в политике. Авторы статьи отмечают, что деятельность либертарианцев негативным образом сказалась на политической карьере Рона Пола. Более того, в настоящий момент наследие Ротбарда может негативно отразиться на деятельности Рэнда Пола - особенно в свете нынешней президентской гонки, - если он вовремя не отречется от оставшегося ему «наследства».
